May 19th, 2000. Northstar Search and Rescue Association received a call from John McDonough of MASAR. The team was activated by MASAR to respond to a lost child incident in Charleston, Maine. The call came in at 19:30 hrs, the team was then paged by Randy Michaud. Seven members were mobilized and enroute to Charleston by 20:30hrs. The team was within minutes of Charleston when the call came from Mr. Lusk telling the team to stand down because the young boy had been found. The team, being comitted to the Spring SAR Exercise at Baxter State Park, returned Northward to Baxter State Park for some rest before a busy days activities. May 20th, 2000. Members of the Northstar Search and Rescue Team participated in the Search/ Spring Training session held at the Northern Section of Baxter State Park. The team was assigned to Zone D. The team members found some good clues but after further investigation by Law Enforcement personnel, the clues turned up gave empty results. Northstar Search and Rescue had seven members present at the training. Maj. Randy Michaud, Cpt. James Michaud, Lt. Daniel Lalonde, Cpl. Jimmy Michaud, Zachary Smith, Jason Bishop, and Daniel Bishop. The search began around 10:30am and went until 1600hrs. The highlight of the day was Daniel Bishops discovery of a small fire pit which raised the hopes of much of those in attendence. (see article below.) After the search all team members attended the debriefing which was given by the Wardens Service. After the debriefing the members enjoyed a wonderful supper provided by the Baxter State Park employees. |
